Get to know the guys from Hardcore Italia
This weekend, it’s easter time and that can only mean one thing. Hardcore lovers, pay attention, because it’s time to clean up your Nikes en get ready for Hardshock Festival. The 6th edition of the first big hardcore festival of the year will we bigger and better than ever before. With 7 stages, almost every hardcore sub genre will be represented during this year’s edition. One of those stages will be hosted by non other than the Hardcore Italia family. We talked to Art of Fighters, Brutale Team and The Melodyst about their carreer and, of course, about Hardshock Festival.
Art of Fighters
A respected act in the scene for years and still very active when it comes to producing the best Italian hardcore. Art of Fighters is ready to destroy the Wired stage hosted by Hardcore Italia during Hardshock Festival. This is what they had to say about their carreer, music and Hardshock:
How did you come into contact with hardcore music and when did you decide you wanted to become an artist?
“At the beginning we didn’t even knew what Hardcore was. We found some harder tracks in some radio commercials for compilations, and we started digging into it. Luckily, we grew up near a huge club in Italy, that at the time was booking important Hardcore names from the USA, Holland and of course Italy. It was love at first sight.”
“We actually never decided to become artists, we started working on music really hard, spending countless nights and days on it and it just happened. Thanks to Traxtorm Records we got the chance to start playing live and get on a proper stage.”
What has been your ultimate highlight during your career so far?
“The new project we’re working on. When we started, as teenagers, we had completely no idea what we were doing. We still don’t, but seeing our potential now compared to the beginning is really something that makes us proud.”
What have you been up to lately?
“We almost finished the new studio, improved acoustics and ergonomics. On the music side, we’re working on the soundtrack for our Japan tour which starts at the end of the month. We got a lot of collaborations to be finalized, with top artists like Unexist, Predator, Tommyknocker, Satronica and Lenny Dee.”
Hardcore Italia is a true lifestyle for both artists and fans. How do you maintain the relationship with your fans?
“We spend a lot of time interacting with our fans. We always try to participate in the online discussions, and reply as fast as we can with everyone that wants to talk with us. Interaction is essential, we want to know our fans, know what they think, what they need, because they are the reason why we do all this. Without his fans an artist cannot exist.”
Italian hardcore fans are very dedicated, why are they so in love with hardcore music?
“The Italian club scene is mostly focused on deep house, minimal, commercial radio songs and traditional Italian music. Hardcore gives to the Italian crowd that escape path they can’t find in other situations. They can really be themselves and not some pretentious fashion hipster.”
Hardshock is the first big hardcore festival of the season. What do you expect from this year’s edition?
“We sense that this year’s edition will be the biggest and best ever. What we really liked from Hardshock since day one was the lineup: a well thought mix of Industrial, Mainstream, Uptempo, Terror. That’s what we like from a festival, to have the chance to discover new and old artists, and listen to different subgenres all in the same day.”
How do you prepare for your set at Hardshock festival? Do you have some kind of ritual?
“The week of the event is all about preparations. We never play a programmed set, but spend a lot of time thinking about what to play, what are the right tunes that match the event theme and spirit. If we find that something is missing we start doing music, or recording music or digging into our CD archive to find some hidden or forgotten gems.”
Why should people visit the Wired stage hosted by Hardcore Italia?
“If you ever came to a Hardcore Italia stage you know what the atmosphere’s like. We’re all experienced dj’s and we grew up in clubs. The way the lineup is made, the choice of the artists: everything is set-up in order to make you dance from the beginning to the end, without having repetitions or low moments. It’s an experience!”
Can we expect new music and collabs?
“It’s been more than 15 years now. If there’s something you can expect from us it’s new music. Solo tracks, collaborations, remixes and something special coming for you!”
What do you think about the strong hardcore identity of this rising festival?
“Hard work always pays off. In a few years Hardshock became a solid reality between the real Hardcore fans and I’m sure it will keep on rocking for a long time.”
How does it feel knowing that Hardcore Italy is still a respected presence in the hardcore scene after all this time?
“It feels good, it feels like we’ve done something good. It wasn’t easy tho, but all the Italian producers have done a terrific job during the years, creating an astounding number of hit tracks.”
What are your plans for the (near) future, are there any (special) things coming up?
“Yes, but I cannot talk about it, not until it’s done. We’re studying and working hard, if this will ever come to life you will hear about that. Besides this, of course there is new music coming up in the following weeks, a tour in Japan this spring and we are working for Australia and South America.”
Where do we meet in 5 years?
“Hope near a beach with a frozen beer in our hands, talking about ideas, music and life.”
Brutale Team
This team is a formation of several acts. It includes Andy The Core, Meccano Twins and The Sickest Squad and they provide the audience with the hardest uptempo hardcore. This year, they will completely demolish the mainstage just like last year:
How did you come into contact with hardcore music and when did you decide you wanted to become an artist?
“Brutale was born by an alliance of Artists so this questions may have many answers, anyway for sure Brutale Act was born to give a true answer to the request of a unique and never seen hardcore act.”
What has been your ultimate highlight during your career so far?
“We did many awesome gigs as Brutale around the world, it’s very hard to say which was the best one. For sure we are very happy, because this year we got many other huge countries to hit. For us it’s always a pleasure to be on a new party’s line-up and to give the crowds the best show they can get.”
Hardcore Italia is a true lifestyle for both artists and fans. How do you maintain the relationship with your fans?
“We really like to stay in touch with them, we spend a lot of time on the dancefloors and we hang around in big parties. Their appreciation is what matters the most for us.”
Italian hardcore fans are very dedicated, why are they so in love with hardcore music?
“We think they really love the “atmosphere” that only hardcore parties can give, that “family” feeling. We also think Hardcore culture is something to be proud of and in Italy it has a very long tradition.”
Hardshock is the first big hardcore festival of the season. What do you expect from this year’s edition?
“Last year we totally demolished the mainstage, we didn’t expect so much disorders during our set. This year we expect more than that for sure!”
How do you prepare for your set at Hardshock festival? Do you have some kind of ritual?
“Well this one is something cool to tell. We don’t remember exactly when but (as you know Brutale is composed by The Sickest Squad, Meccano Twins, Andy The Core) we were on stage and Andy said “let’s do a squat to warm up”, we did that all together and we named it “The Sickest Squat”. From that day on before every Brutale set we do a Squat on the stage, every time.”
Can we expect new music and collabs?
“100% Yes. We are always working on new ideas. A new Brutale track will be released very soon.”
What do you think about the strong hardcore identity of this rising festival?
“Hardshock is something fresh and new. It gives some alternative choices to its visitors, it’s something different that deserves a good future for sure. The Hardcore scene needs parties like that to keep the movement alive and strong.”
How does it feel knowing that Hardcore Italy is still a respected presence in the hardcore scene after all this time?
“We are proud of it. Traxtorm, the main label behind the Hardcore Italia concept, is one of the oldest and most respected labels in the entire industry. For us is a big honor to be part of it and to work for it.”
What are your plans for the (near) future, are there any (special) things coming up?
“We are working hard on Brutale as label to give the best Brutal Hardcore in the scene. We are always processing ideas all together, brainstorming on a daily basis.”

“For sure on the Hardshock mainstage!”
The Melodyst
This duo has been part of the Hardcore Italia family since 2014. You can find these guys on more and more big hardcore parties every year in the Netherlands and abroad. This year they will represent their label during Hardshock Festival:
How did you come into contact with hardcore music and when did you decide you wanted to become an artist?
“It was around 99′. The hype of the ‘gabber’ scene, in every school you could meet some gabber kids and the music was everywhere. After that, in 2008, we fell in love with ‘Elevation’ by Amnesys and ‘Radical’ by Angerfist.”
What has been your ultimate highlight during your career so far?
“It is a hard choice because last year was full of big achievements, but if we have to choose, the U.S.A. Trauma Tour was a Dream come true. Being on a Tour with DJ’s that you’ve loved and followed for years was totally off the roof! Amazing!!”
What have you been up to lately?
“In these past few months we have been working hard to releasing new music every month! We also created vlogs and special behind the scene videos! This project is called The Melodyst Monthly Mayhem. Check the videos in YouTube or at our social media pages!”
Hardcore Italia is a true lifestyle for both artists and fans. How do you maintain the relationship with your fans?
“Of course we love to engage with the crowd as much as we can while playing, but we want to experience the party with them so it has become a part of the same thing.”
Italian hardcore fans are very dedicated, why are they so in love with hardcore music?
“Because Italian hardcore is respected globally and this made them feel special too! Hardcore Italia is them! They are our loyal members of the family!”
Hardshock is the first big hardcore festival of the season. What do you expect from this year’s edition?
“That there will be good weather haha. We are sure that it will be a hell of a Party!”
How do you prepare for your set at Hardshock festival? Do you have some kind of ritual?
“Drinking a few beers and smoke a big phat joint, just chilling to concentrate before the storm.”

“Yes for sure, always expect a lot of new music from us!”
