Regain about the grand final of his ‘Out of Bounds’ live-act
At the beginning of this year, Regain started a new chapter. With his live-act ‘Out of Bounds’ he has changed course and completely focused on producing new tracks. With his act he performed at Loudness, Intents Festival, Defqon.1 and Supremacy. Now that his 5th and final ‘Out of Bounds’ live-act is planned for Shockerz – Subject Hostile, we asked him about this very last performance, the idea behind the act and what the tracks mean to him.
In 2016, Regain announced his first very first live-act: ‘Regain: LIVE’, for which he produced one new exclusive tool for the event in question. “After the year 2016, a lot changed for me. I finished my studies and could focus even more on my passion: producing music. My album came out early 2017 and I had a lot of time to think about new projects. With my management, I decided not to schedule a ‘Regain LIVE’ performance in 2017. I had the idea to come up with something unique for 2018 to let the act become a totally new experience. My idea was to produce a completely new batch of tracks exclusively for the whole live-act in 2018 instead of one new tool. This has kept me busy behind the scenes for the whole year 2017.”

The time was there in the beginning of this year. Finally all Regain’s new tracks could be played. “Nothing is more exciting than preparing something so big and receiving a great welcome during the first performance at Loudness. In all following live acts I have continued the tradition to add new tracks to the exclusive range of tracks. In order not to put a hold on my solo act, I decided to save tracks for both my solo and live act. For ‘Out of Bounds’ I wanted to go even further in the experimental/exclusive way and not look at how the current scene of raw hardstyle is developing. I wanted to keep my own style and started thinking about tracks with a unique character such as ‘Back to My Roots’. This is a track in which I want to emphasize how hardstyle has started for me: with a lot of emotion and melody. With this feeling in mind I also produced ‘Swang’. Recently I also finished my track ‘Crowd Reaction’, which has some of influences of trance, but with a heavy Regain touch.”
The public’s voice also played a role after the live-acts started. Regain told a bit more about this: “The audience is very important to me and I wanted to involve them in my release schedule. Halfway through this year, I presented a choice which track should be released and then I would play it during my solo act. This worked out very well and the majority of the audience chose ‘Brains Hit the Floor’. This track was released immediately afterwards. The track has gone ‘Out of Bounds’, as it were.”
Before Regain will perform his very last ‘Out of Bounds’ live-act, he will let everyone decide which track will go “Out of Bounds”. Now it will be regarding his track: ‘This Is Regain’. “‘This is Regain’ is a unique series of tracks that I have made for every ‘Out of Bounds’ performance. Now I am giving the audience the opportunity to decide which of the 4 versions should be released. The other tracks will disappear, but will remain in the back of your minds when you’ve experienced the acts of 2018.” For 2019 there are new plans, so we have come to the end of this live-act series of ‘Out of Bounds’. “This was also the planning for this year and do not be alarmed, because for Shockerz I have something very special in store.”
