We spraken met MYST over ‘The Future of Hardstyle’
When did you first come in contact with hardstyle?
Well, first of all, I listened to Hardcore since 1998. That’s some years before hardstyle was born.
Hardstyle itself caught my attention in 2006, when the more melodic hardstyle became populair and I went to my first parties.
Can you tell us about how it all started for you?
I started producing almost immediately after listening hardstyle tracks in 2006.
What distinguishes you from other raw acts?
I think I am one of the few that primarily uses melodies as a climax/drop/you name it, these days. I try to produce in an oldskool way (2007-2010 era) combined with new ideas and with the hardest kicks of course. Beside of this I always try to do new things, visit unexplored theritories. There’s nothing worse to me than to be a copy of something existing.
What makes your love for raw hardstyle so strong?
A typical good raw track to me has a break that sounds like the universe and a kickdrum that could cause an armageddon. I think it’s the most intense kind of music.
What’s the last track that gave you chills, and why?
‘High Voltage & Bass Chaserz – Karate Kidz’. That break..
Who inspires you and why?
As I said, a lot of older hardstyle. But also basically everyone in the scene nowadays. I like to listen to everything and keep updated as much as possible.
What’s your greatest Hardstyle memory?
When i first heard ‘Headhunterz & Wildstylez vs. Noisecontrollers – Tonight’ at Q-BASE 2009.
What can we expect from you in the near future, production-wise?
I’m planning a special release on Nightbreed Noctural. It’s a concept based EP. With a big focus on the atmosphere and scenery. I will premiere it at Defqon.1. I also have some collabs in progress (one with Endymion). And more solo tracks to be released on the Nightbreeds main label.
You’ve been featured in this month’s episode of The Future of Hardstyle. Can you tell us a bit more about that?
It’s a well updated list of tracks I like to spin, including a lot of Nightbreed tracks. Everyone on the label is doing an awesome job lately :).
